We love paying commissions

Nov 24, 2016

It’s a theme that we repeat over and over. We really do. Because paying commissions means we are doing deals.

And doing deals is what keeps us in business.
But we don’t like being taken advantage of.

Every agent knows that prices and values have risen substantially over the last few years. And that listings are not that easy to find. And that sales are easier to make in this market. And that commissions are generally a percentage of the sale price.

Which all adds up to the fact that commissions (in dollar terms) are increasing significantly, and that agents don’t have to work any harder (the competent ones anyway) to get those commissions.

So why is it that some agents feel it necessary, with all that background, to increase the percentage commission?  Is it just greed? Or simply because they can?
So what should the poor vendor do ? Resurrect our dusty cricket bat and beat up agents? Or simply give the agency to an agent who doesn’t visibly demonstrate their greed?
The jury has retired. But not yet made a decision on the answers to these questions. Perhaps the best course is to await the guilty parties plea of guilt, and see if they demonstrate remorse.
